Privacy policy

Privacy, cookies and advertising.

Korea Seasons is a static website. There is no account to create and there is very little to collect in the first place. The one exception is the optional email newsletter, described below. This page describes what actually happens when you read a page here.

What this site stores

The only thing this site saves in your browser is your light or dark reading preference. It stays on your device, is never sent anywhere, and disappears if you clear your browser data.

The web server keeps standard access logs — the page requested, the time, the browser type, the referring site and the IP address the request came from. A local country database converts the address to a two-letter country code without sending visitor data to an outside service. We retain aggregate page-view, internally referred content-view, traffic-source, language-edition and country totals for up to 90 calendar days. Query strings are removed and the private report contains no IP addresses. A daily salted IP hash is used only to avoid counting the same visitor repeatedly that day and is discarded when the date changes.

There are no analytics scripts, tracking cookies, tracking pixels or social media trackers on this site. The aggregate report is produced on this server from its ordinary access log. If that changes, this page will be updated first.

The email newsletter

Subscribing is optional and requires you to type your email address into the form and submit it — nothing is collected unless you do this. The form sends your email address directly to Buttondown, the third-party service we use to send the newsletter; it does not pass through this site’s own server.

We only send an issue when we have real updates worth your time — a confirmed date change, a new season, something we verified is different from what the site currently says. We do not send filler on a schedule, and every issue links to an unsubscribe option.

Buttondown’s handling of your address is governed by its own privacy policy, not this one: buttondown.com/legal/privacy.

Email you send us

If you write to the address on the contact page, we keep that message so we can act on the correction. We do not add you to any mailing list.

Advertising and cookies

This site does not currently display advertising. The following describes how advertising will work when it is enabled, and is published in advance so it is in place before any ad is served.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. Where applicable, users may also visit www.aboutads.info to opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings without losing access to anything on this site — nothing here requires them. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to the address on the contact page.
