Is this one for you?

Who it suits. Food-focused travelers already visiting Pohang who want to compare several of the city's local specialties in one street setting over an evening. It is a poor match for anyone expecting a guaranteed tasting of all ten dishes, since no vendor list or menu is published, and for anyone treating it as the only reason for a long same-day trip from Seoul.

When to go. The market runs 16:00 to 22:00 on both days, and the free DJ party begins at 21:00, so the final hour is the loudest and most crowded stretch. Come for the last two hours if the evening atmosphere is the draw, or arrive nearer the 16:00 opening if shorter food queues matter more. The stamp-tour rewards last only while supplies do, so that activity is not one to leave until late.

Pohang’s ten-flavors night market is a compact, two-night food event on Mundeok Hello Military Street in Ocheon, south of central Pohang. It runs from 16:00 to 22:00 on September 4 and 5, 2026. The point is straightforward: eat from temporary stalls, see how the city presents its ten designated local dishes, and stay for a small evening stage program and a late DJ set. Pohang City runs it along the restaurant strip between Mundeok crossroads and the Big Mart Mundeok store, and the stated idea is to turn a quiet commercial street into an open-air night market — parasols, tables and decorative lighting arranged to feel like a row of Korean pojangmacha street-food tents.

The setting is a restaurant street rather than Pohang’s beach or downtown sightseeing area. That makes this a deliberate trip even after reaching the city. It also means the festival makes most sense as an evening attached to a Pohang visit, not as the only reason for a long same-day journey from Seoul. The name uses yajang (야장), literally an “evening market,” which is the honest description: this is a night-time eating street, not a daytime cultural program.

What you actually do here

The published layout has one promotional booth devoted to Pohang’s ten flavors, 20 food stalls, 10 food trucks, a seated eating area under parasols and a reusable-container return point. The city’s list of ten dishes covers mori-guksu noodle soup, mulhoe cold raw-fish soup, sliced blue-backed fish, gwamegi, snow crab, ox-head soup, Pohang spinach and mountain-vegetable bibimbap, grilled clams, monkfish soup and a seafood-and-chicken soup.

That list describes the foods being promoted, not a guarantee that every dish will be sold in a full portion on both nights. The organizer has not released a vendor-by-vendor menu or prices. Go expecting a night market with a Pohang food theme, rather than a fixed ten-course tasting.

Around the food, the confirmed 2026 program is a set of continuously running activities rather than one ticketed show: a stamp tour linking the promotional hall with participating booths and nearby businesses, a small-business flea market, hands-on experience booths, an impromptu talent show and performances by local artists. The stamp-tour rewards are available only while supplies last, so it is not an activity to leave until the end of the night. General entry is free, but eating is not: meals, drinks and flea-market purchases are all paid individually, and with no verified price list published it is better to budget by how many separate dishes you plan to try than to expect a single festival package price.

Programme and timetable

There is less fixed timing here than at a stage-based festival, and that is worth understanding before you plan an arrival. The market itself is open 16:00 to 22:00 on both September 4 and 5. Most of the side program — the talent show, the flea market, the experience booths and the stamp tour — is described as running throughout those hours rather than at set showtimes, so there is no single “main event” to arrive for.

The one fixed anchor is the DJ party, billed as “Pohang 10-mi Night,” which starts at 21:00 each evening and runs to the 22:00 close. That is the loudest, most crowded hour of the night and the part most clearly aimed at a younger evening crowd. If music and atmosphere are the draw, come for the last two hours; if the food and the ten-flavors promotion are the point, the earlier evening is calmer and the queues are shorter.

An earlier version of this guide listed a singing contest with preliminary and final rounds at fixed times. Those times could not be reconfirmed in the 2026 announcement, which describes a continuous “impromptu talent show” instead, so this guide no longer states specific stage-competition slots. Treat any precise showtime you see elsewhere as unverified until the organizer posts a dated daily schedule.

Food on site and nearby

On site, the offer is the twenty stalls, ten food trucks and the ten-flavors promotion hall, eaten at shared tables under lighting meant to evoke a street-tent night market. Because no vendor list or menu prices were published, this guide cannot promise that any one of the ten flavors will be available in a full serving, cannot state portion prices, and cannot confirm vegetarian options or whether cards are accepted. Bring some cash, and treat the promotion hall as the place to understand the ten dishes rather than as a guarantee of tasting all of them.

Two of the region’s foods are worth knowing about as genuine Pohang specialties, separate from whatever the stalls happen to serve. Gwamegi — half-dried Pacific saury or herring — comes from Guryongpo on the coast east of the city and is a winter delicacy eaten in strips with seaweed and vegetables. Pohang spinach, or pohangcho, is a winter crop grown in the coastal fields around Pohang, including Ocheon where this festival takes place; it was the first spinach in Korea to earn geographical-indication status, and the sea wind that keeps it low to the ground is credited with its sweeter taste. Neither is a festival invention, and both are easier to find reliably in the city’s restaurants and markets than at a two-night stall row.

Getting there without a car

Direct KTX trains connect Seoul Station and Pohang Station. Pohang City’s transport page gives the journey as about two hours twenty minutes, and Korail’s current timetable confirms direct KTX service. Reserve a specific train rather than treating that figure as a turn-up-and-go schedule; departures and journey times vary.

Pohang Station is north of the city, while Mundeok Hello Military Street is in Ocheon to the south. The rail time therefore understates the full journey. For the simplest arrival, take a taxi from Pohang Station and show the driver the Korean name, “포항 10미 야장축제,” together with the venue between Mundeok crossroads and the Big Mart Mundeok store. If you prefer buses, use Pohang’s live bus-information system or Naver Map on the day. The city publishes service to the Mundeok area, but I could not verify one stable, direct station-to-festival route well enough to prescribe a bus number here.

The Seoul express-bus alternative takes longer than KTX but arrives in southern central Pohang rather than at the northern rail station. Current schedule data puts the terminal-to-terminal ride at roughly four hours. It can still be useful if its departure time or arrival point fits your plans better, but check KOBUS before travel rather than relying on a fixed timetable in this article.

Parking, shuttles and traffic control

This is a small, street-based event, and the organizer did not publish a parking map, a road-closure notice or a festival shuttle plan for 2026. That absence is itself worth planning around. The venue is a working restaurant strip rather than a dedicated festival ground with satellite lots, so do not assume there is organized visitor parking, and do not navigate straight to the street expecting to find a space beside the stalls on a busy evening.

If you are staying in Pohang without a car, the practical approach is a taxi or local bus to the Mundeok area and back, timed against the 22:00 close. If you are driving, treat parking as an ordinary-street problem near a busy commercial block, arrive early, and be ready to park a few minutes’ walk away. Because no official traffic-control detail was published, check for same-day notices from Pohang City rather than relying on this guide for road closures.

Day trip or overnight

A same-day round trip from Seoul is technically possible but poorly matched to the event. The KTX portion is quick at about two hours twenty minutes each way, but the venue sits well south of Pohang Station, the program does not begin until 16:00, and the atmosphere the festival is built around — the lit tables and the 21:00 DJ set — belongs to the late evening. Work backward from a booked return train, and remember that getting from Ocheon back to the station is an extra cross-city leg after 22:00.

An overnight stay in Pohang is the less rushed structure if you want the full evening rather than a clipped visit. It also lets the festival be what it is best suited to be: one evening within a broader Pohang trip that might also include the coast at Yeongildae or the harbor at Guryongpo. This guide does not recommend a specific hotel, because availability and prices were not independently checked.

Honest assessment

This is a food market first. The strongest reason to go is the chance to compare several Pohang specialties in one place without planning separate restaurant stops. The 20 stalls and 10 food trucks give it more range than a single street meal, while the promotion hall is useful if you want to understand what the city counts among its signature foods. The night-market staging — parasols, shared tables, decorative lighting — is a genuine part of the appeal rather than marketing gloss, and the free 21:00 DJ party adds an evening draw beyond eating.

The limitation is equally clear: the organizer has not published a full vendor list, menu prices or a promise that all ten dishes can be bought. If one specific food is essential, do not build the evening around the assumption that a festival booth will have it. Keep a nearby restaurant saved as a fallback, and note that the two most famous regional specialties — gwamegi and Pohang spinach — are winter foods more reliably found in the city year-round than guaranteed at a September stall row.

There is also no reliable attendance history to support a confident crowd forecast. A two-day event compressed into six evening hours may have queues, especially around dinner and during the 21:00 DJ hour, but that is a planning risk rather than a measured fact. Arriving close to 16:00 is the sensible choice if shorter food lines matter more than the late atmosphere, and the stamp-tour reward is explicitly limited by supply, which is another reason not to leave that activity until late.

Finally, this is not a convenient standalone Seoul day trip. The KTX portion is quick, but the venue is well away from Pohang Station and the program is built for the evening. It fits better into an overnight Pohang itinerary; for a special trip from Seoul, the travel time is substantial compared with the scale of the event.

Local specialties to try

Guryongpo gwamegi

Guryongpo gwamegi (구룡포 과메기)

Gwamegi is split Pacific saury or herring dried in cold coastal air. Pohang City identifies Guryongpo, on the coast east of the city, as its main production base; the fish is cleaned, opened and dried outdoors over several days, then usually eaten in strips with seaweed and vegetables. It is a winter specialty of the wider Pohang area rather than a dish invented for this festival, though gwamegi is also one of the city's designated ten flavors.

Pohang spinach (pohangcho) (포항초)

Pohangcho is winter spinach grown in coastal Pohang, including Ocheon where this festival is held. It became the first spinach in Korea to receive geographical-indication status (No. 96); the salt-laden sea wind keeps it low and spreading rather than tall, which local growers credit for its sweeter, deeper flavor. It is a farm product of the region, not a festival stall item, and no photograph is shown here rather than substitute a generic spinach picture.

Questions worth asking

Is admission really free?

Yes. The Korea Tourism Organization's event record lists free admission, and Pohang City's announcement describes an open street event. That does not include food, drinks or goods from the stalls, and no 2026 menu-price list has been published.

Can I try all ten Pohang specialties here?

Do not assume that every dish will be served as a full menu item. The published plan includes a ten-flavors promotion hall, 20 food stalls, 10 food trucks and a stamp tour, but it does not identify each vendor or promise that all ten dishes will be available to buy.

What time does the atmosphere peak?

The market runs 16:00-22:00 on both days, and the DJ party branded 'Pohang 10-mi Night' begins at 21:00. That makes the last hour the loudest and most crowded stretch; if you are there mainly to eat, arriving nearer the 16:00 opening avoids both the dinner queues and the late-evening crowd.

Can I visit from Seoul in one day?

It is possible, but check the return train before leaving Seoul. The festival runs only from 16:00 to 22:00, while the KTX ride to Pohang Station takes about 2 hours 20 minutes and the venue requires another trip across the city. Staying overnight removes the pressure to leave before closing.

How crowded will it be?

There is no reliable past attendance figure for this event, so a crowd level cannot be stated honestly. The practical low-risk move is to arrive near the 16:00 opening if eating matters more than the evening stage program and the 21:00 DJ party.
