Sacheon Air Show 2026
The essentials first: whether it is open, what it costs, how hard it is to reach and what to expect if you do not speak Korean.

Is this one for you?
Who it suits. This suits visitors who want to watch real military and aerobatic flying from an airbase, and who are comfortable with a registration step, a security-style entry and a long day on open ground. It is a weaker choice if you want a relaxed, walk-in festival: you cannot drive in, entry closes at 14:00, and the aircraft noise is a warning on the official page for infants, older visitors and pregnant women.
When to go. Plan to be through the gate in the morning, because entry closes at 14:00 and the published flying slots on October 23-25 start at 10:40 and again at 14:20. Saturday October 24 has the most side events listed, and the industry exhibition is open to all visitors only on October 24-25. If you can only come once, those two days give you both the flying and the exhibition.

The Sacheon Air Show is an aerial display held on a working airfield in Gyeongsangnam-do, four days from October 22 to 25, 2026. It is organised by the Air Force together with Gyeongnam Province, Sacheon City and Korea Aerospace Industries, and press coverage dates the event to 2004, with the Air Force a co-host since 2016. The Culture Ministry’s 2026 plan lists it as a biennial event, so this is a year when it is held.
The practical headline is that this is not an open-gate street festival. It takes place inside a military-protected area, which is why every visitor registers and carries ID, why you cannot drive in, and why photography is allowed only in designated places. If you accept that, it is a free and unusually close look at military and aerobatic flying.

What you actually do here
You watch flying. The official programme page lists the ROK Air Force Black Eagles, the national aerobatic team flying eight T-50B jets, and a civilian aerobatic act from the Australian Paul Bennet Airshows team. It also lists demonstration flights by the KF-21 fighter, the T-50 and KT-1 trainers and a helicopter, a high-altitude parachute jump from a transport aircraft, and a combat search-and-rescue demonstration. The 2024 photograph in this article shows a rescue-style demonstration at the same airfield: helicopter and ground team in the foreground, jets overhead, hills and the airfield edge behind.
On the ground, the show has static displays of aircraft, weapons and air-defence equipment, and a long list of experience programmes. The official experience page names drone-goggle piloting and simulation, a VR and virtual-space area, a dome film on space science and an aerospace-themed photo booth, among two dozen others. It gives no dates, ages or sign-up rules, so treat the list as a menu of what may be there. Programmes can change, and the official page says so.
New in 2026 is the Gyeongnam Global Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (GADEX), held alongside the show for the first time. Press reports put it at 130 companies and institutions (108 domestic, 22 foreign) and 283 booths in two halls, with buyer meetings and 20-plus overseas buyers. It is mainly an industry event, which affects when it is useful to you; see the timetable below.
Programme and timetable
The official schedule page gives the following public timings:
- October 22 (Thursday): pre-ceremony military band and honour guard 12:05-12:40, opening ceremony 13:00-13:20, then a celebration flight by the Black Eagles at 13:20-13:25.
- Black Eagles displays: 13:25-14:00 on October 22; 10:40-11:15 and 14:20-14:55 on each of October 23, 24 and 25.
- Australian aerobatic team: 11:00-11:20 on October 22; 09:35-09:50 and 13:40-13:55 on October 23-25.
- High-altitude parachute jump: 12:30-13:05 on October 23-24 and 11:50-12:30 on October 25, as listed on the programme page.
- Industry exhibition (GADEX): 09:00-17:00 on all four days. It is business-focused on October 22-23 and open to all show visitors on October 24-25.
- October 24 (Saturday): a local concert (사천사랑음악회) at 14:00, and from 09:00-17:00 a paper-aeroplane contest, a model-aircraft contest and a rocket pitch competition. Press also reports a space rover challenge that day.
The page adds that aircraft and flight times may change with operations and military conditions. Check the official air-show page and its notice board again just before you travel.
One thing the timetable makes clear: the 14:20 Black Eagles display is only for people already inside, because entry closes at 14:00. KF-21 flight slots were not given on the pages this guide read.
Two local museums, the Sacheon Aerospace Science Museum and the KAI Aerospace Museum, are reported to be free to enter on October 22-25. Hours and any queuing arrangements were not confirmed.
Tickets, fees and booking
There is no ticket to buy, but there is a booking step. Complete the entry registration on the official portal, which also offers an English form, then show the generated QR code at the gate. Registration is open from September 7 to October 25. The official page says unregistered visitors can register on site with ID, but doing it in advance is the faster route.
Photo ID is mandatory even if you registered online. Children under 14 can enter with an accompanying adult who registers them. The pages say ID is required but not which document a foreign visitor should show; a passport is the obvious choice, but ask the organiser on 055-831-2061 if you are unsure.
Banned items on the official list are drones, e-scooters and similar mobility devices, bicycles, explosives and weapons, flammable material such as cigarettes, matches and fuel, alcohol, pets, and tents or cooking gear. Filming for commercial purposes needs prior approval, and posting unapproved footage is warned against.
Getting there without a car
Sacheon sits roughly 300 km south of Seoul on the coast. The route this guide could verify is the intercity bus from Seoul Nambu Terminal to Sacheon. Two independent timetable listings show a ride of roughly 3 h 45 m to just over 4 h, and an express-class (우등) fare listed at about 32,500 won. Schedules and fares vary by departure, so check the live listing.
From there you do not go straight to the gates. The official instructions are to reach a shuttle hub and ride the free shuttle. The FAQ gives about 30 minutes from Sacheon Terminal. This guide did not verify a rail-plus-bus route, so it does not recommend one.
Parking, shuttles and traffic control
Private cars are barred from the venue. Drivers are told to follow the expressway network to the Chukdong or Sacheon interchange, park in a temporary lot, and take the shuttle. The official hubs are Aviation MRO, the Korea AeroSpace Administration site, Sacheon City Hall, Samcheonpo Daegyo Park and the former reserve-force dormitory lot, which is walking distance. Sacheon Terminal is a shuttle-only point where you cannot park. The shuttle runs 09:00-18:00.
The transport page lists minutes next to each hub (15, 15, 30, 30 and 40 for the first five), which appear to be shuttle ride times. Press reports note that lot assignment, routes and hours can change with the operating plan. Group-bus and disabled-vehicle entry have a separate procedure, posted as a notice on the official site.
Day trip or overnight
A day trip from Seoul is possible but unforgiving. Four hours on the bus plus a half-hour shuttle puts a 09:00 departure at the gate close to 13:30, with little margin before the 14:00 cutoff. A later start risks missing entry altogether.
This guide did not verify a last bus back to Seoul, and the show ends at 17:00 with shuttles running to 18:00. Because the return is unconfirmed, no day-trip or overnight recommendation is made. Accommodation was not checked, so no hotel is named. Check the last bus and the expected queue for the shuttle before you decide.
Food on site and nearby
No vendor list, menu or price was found for the 2026 grounds, so this guide does not promise food on site. The official rules ban cooking equipment and alcohol. Eat before you queue, and carry water, since the airfield is open ground with no confirmed shade.
For a documented local product, Sacheon City’s English tourism page lists jukbangryeom anchovy, which is caught with wooden stakes in the fast south-coast current rather than with nets. It describes firm, low-fat fish with almost no fishy smell, and says output is small because the installations are licensed. That is a shopping or restaurant idea for the town, not a statement about what the show grounds sell.
Honest assessment
The draw is simple and real. You get a four-day flying programme from a real airfield, with national aerobatic and fighter demonstrations, at no ticket price. For the right visitor, the combination of the Black Eagles, the fighter flights and the new industry exhibition is more concentrated than most Korean festivals.
The cost is logistics. You must register, bring ID, use shuttles and be in by 14:00. Flight times depend on weather and military conditions, and the official pages warn of aircraft noise. Several practical questions were not answered in public material this guide could verify: food on site, shade and seating, the weather-cancellation policy, and a last bus home. The new industry exhibition is open to everyone only on the 24th and 25th. If the flying is what you want, go on October 23-25 and plan to arrive well before the afternoon display, not at 14:00.
Local specialties to try

Jukbang anchovy (죽방멸치)
Sacheon City's English tourism page lists jukbangryeom anchovy as a local product. It describes fish caught by wooden stakes set in fast south-coast currents rather than by nets, and says only a small amount is produced because the number of installations and fishing licences is restricted. This is a Sacheon specialty, not a promise that the air-show grounds will sell it.
Questions worth asking
Is the 2026 Sacheon Air Show free?
Press coverage describes admission as free, and the official visitor page lists no ticket price. You still have to register for entry and carry photo ID, so free does not mean walk-in.
Do I need to register in advance?
Yes. The organisers require an entry registration because the show is held on a military airfield. Online registration runs from September 7 to October 25 and produces a QR code that is scanned at the gate; an English-language form is offered for foreign visitors. The official page says that if you have not registered online you can register on site, and that photo ID is required either way.
What time must I arrive?
Entry runs 09:00-14:00 and the official FAQ says there is no re-entry after 14:00. Visitors are expected to leave by 17:00. Because the shuttle adds time, treat 14:00 as a hard limit and not as a target.
Can I drive to the air show and park there?
No. Private cars are not allowed into the venue. Visitors use temporary car parks or the Sacheon Terminal and then ride the free shuttle, which runs 09:00-18:00. The official transport page lists six hubs: Aviation MRO, the Korea AeroSpace Administration site, Sacheon Terminal, Sacheon City Hall, Samcheonpo Daegyo Park and the former reserve-force dormitory lot, which is walking distance.
When are the Black Eagles flying?
The official air-show page lists the Black Eagles at 13:25-14:00 on October 22, and at 10:40-11:15 and 14:20-14:55 on each of October 23, 24 and 25, seven displays in all. The page itself says aircraft and flying times can change with operations and weather, so check it again on the day.
Can ordinary visitors enter the aerospace and defence exhibition?
Press reports say the first Gyeongnam Global Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (GADEX) is aimed at trade buyers and business meetings on October 22-23 and opens to all show visitors on October 24-25 without a separate entry procedure.
Can I do this as a day trip from Seoul?
It is possible on paper but tight. The bus alone takes close to four hours and entry closes at 14:00, so a late departure from Seoul can miss the gate. This guide did not verify a last bus back to Seoul, so check your return before committing.
