Admission
FREENo 2026 article checked states the fee. The Gyeongnam provincial festival listing for the previous edition gave admission as free, and Hwangsan Park itself has no entry charge, so free entry is the working assumption. Confirm with the city before travelling if it matters.
From Seoul
About 3 h by KTX via Gupo to Mulgeum Station (roughly 2 h 40 m to 3 h 10 m depending on the service)Take a KTX that runs via Gupo, or a Mugunghwa or ITX train, from Seoul Station to Mulgeum Station, then walk across the overpass into Hwangsan Park. Not every KTX stops at Mulgeum, so check the specific train on Korail.
Hours
Night viewing until 21:00. The 2026 opening time was not confirmed.

Is this one for you?

Who it suits. This suits people who enjoy gardens and plant displays and want an easy walk-around outing from Busan or Ulsan, or a rail trip that ends within walking distance of the venue. It is a weaker choice if you want a single big headline show or lots of food and entertainment: the reported programme is mainly the displays plus acoustic and band sets on weekends. If you do not care about flowers, there is little else here to carry the trip.

When to go. Plan around the closing time of 21:00 and arrive with enough daylight and evening left to walk the whole plaza, since the grounds are reported as open for viewing at night as well as by day. Weekends add stage performances on the main stage; that is a reason to come then, but this guide has no crowd data to say how busy it gets. The opening time for 2026 was not confirmed, so check before building a morning plan around it.

Yangsan’s chrysanthemum festival fills the Central Plaza of Hwangsan Park, a riverside park beside the Nakdong River in Mulgeum-eup, with plants the city itself has grown and arranged. The 2026 edition is the festival’s 22nd, according to the city’s announcement as reported in the local press, and it runs for 17 days from October 30 to November 15. It is part of Yangsan’s 2026 “Visit Yangsan Year” promotion, which explains why the sculptures lean on local history and the city’s mascots.

This is a display festival run by the municipality, not a concert or food event. The reports say it is operated by the Yangsan City Agricultural Technology Center, and the weekend stage programme is a supporting act rather than the draw.

What you actually do here

You walk through the plaza and look at the flowers. The city counts about 53,000 pieces in total, and the breakdown is useful for knowing what you will see:

  • about 300 bonsai-style works, which the reports describe as root, stone and wood mounted pieces;
  • about 430 large formations made from multi-bloom and cascading chrysanthemums;
  • about 1,500 large single-bloom works;
  • about 51,000 small-flowered plants, which make up the bulk of the beds.

On top of the plant displays, the city says it is building themed sculptures from chrysanthemums. Four Yangsan tourism characters (Hoit, Ppuyong, Geumi and Maerong) appear, along with a taller Sapnyangmun gate and dragon and tower shapes drawn from local history. Two themed areas are also announced: an amusement-park scene using a carousel and Ferris wheel motif, and a winter scene with igloos, snowmen and penguins. Reports do not say whether the carousel and Ferris wheel are working rides, and this guide does not assume they are.

Near the west entrance there is a wish tunnel where visitors hang golden wish papers. That is the one participatory element named in the coverage.

Programme and timetable

The only scheduled content reported is a weekend programme of acoustic guitar, band and other cultural performances on the Central Plaza main stage. No performer names, set times or dates were published in the coverage checked, so this guide lists none. If a particular act is the reason for your trip, wait for the city’s own notice.

One Korean report adds some side events: a pet culture festival on November 7, a farmers’ event on November 12 and a craft exhibition from November 4 to 11. Only one outlet gave these, and the venues were not stated, so treat them as unconfirmed extras. A separate Yangsan event, the Egg-ya Festa on November 7 and 8, is listed in city tour coverage as its own event, not as part of this festival.

Hours are reported as night viewing until 21:00. The 2025 listing in the provincial database gave 09:00 to 21:00, but no 2026 opening time was found, so it is left unconfirmed.

Tickets, fees and booking

No 2026 article checked states an admission charge. The provincial festival listing, which describes a previous edition, gave admission as free, and Hwangsan Park itself is a public park with no entry charge. The sensible assumption is free entry with nothing to book, but that is an assumption carried from earlier years and a general park rule, not a 2026 statement. The site is flagged as free in this guide on that basis only.

The press also mentions booths selling local farm products. No prices or stall list were published.

For questions, the city’s tourism promotion division was the contact listed on 2025 festival pages, at 055-392-2823. That number is from the previous edition, so confirm that it still applies.

Getting there without a car

The simplest route is rail. Mulgeum Station is on the Gyeongbu line, and an overpass leads from the station to Hwangsan Park, so the walk is short and does not require crossing a road. NamuWiki’s station entry notes an elevator on that overpass. Trip.com’s venue page gives the walk as roughly 10 minutes, although that figure comes from a travel-listing site and not from the city.

From Seoul Station, KTX trains that run via Gupo make selective stops at Mulgeum (service began on December 29, 2023), and Mugunghwa and ITX trains also stop there. Travel-timetable pages put the trip at about 2 hours 40 minutes on average, and the Gupo-routed KTX timetables run closer to three hours. So plan on about three hours each way. Not all KTX services stop at Mulgeum; only buy a ticket after checking the exact train on Korail.

By road, a long-distance bus from Dong Seoul takes about 4 hours 10 minutes to Yangsan Intercity Bus Terminal, according to one timetable aggregator. That terminal is in Jungbu-dong, not in Mulgeum-eup, and this guide could not verify a local connection to the park. For most visitors from Seoul, the train is the easier choice.

If you are already in Busan, note that Busan Metro Line 2 ends at Yangsan Station, which is not the same place as Mulgeum Station. Search for your route in a Korean map app before assuming a single transfer.

Parking, shuttles and traffic control

CNB News reports that the city plans to expand parking near the site and to arrange temporary shuttle routes for visitors using public transport. That is a plan, with no published lot locations, route stops, start date or operating hours in any article checked. If you are driving, look for the city’s traffic notice shortly before your trip rather than navigating to the plaza and hoping for a nearby space.

Day trip or overnight

A Seoul day trip is possible in principle: the station is close to the venue and the grounds stay open until 21:00. But the round trip is about six hours by train, and this guide does not know the last departure that would let you see the evening displays and still get home. Check that return train before you commit. If you are coming from Busan, Ulsan or elsewhere in the region, this is a straightforward half-day outing.

Honest assessment

The strengths are scale and ease of access. A display of about 53,000 plants grown by the city, in a riverside park next to a train station, with weekend performances and evening opening, is an easy outing for anyone who likes flowers. The themed sculptures also give the display a local character that a generic flower show would lack.

The limits are just as clear. The programme is thin outside the displays, the reported side events are single-source, and the practical details that matter most to a visitor from far away (the 2026 opening time, parking locations and shuttle routes) had not been published when this guide was written. It is also a municipal flower display and not a performance event, so travellers who want food stalls, headline acts or a packed timetable may feel short-changed. Come if the flowers are the reason, check the city’s latest notice for parking and shuttles, and treat free admission as likely but not guaranteed until the city says so.

Local specialties to try

Wondong plum (maesil)

Wondong plum (maesil) (원동 매실)

Yangsan's agricultural centre lists plums with Wondong-myeon as the main growing area, and local press describes Wondong plums as a roughly century-old heirloom variety with small fruit, usually sold as syrup, extract, plum wine or pickled plums. Wondong is in a different part of Yangsan from the festival site, and the harvest runs from about mid-June to early July, so this is a regional specialty to look for in shops, not something tied to the November event.

Questions worth asking

What are the dates of the 2026 Yangsan Chrysanthemum Festival?

The announced dates are October 30 to November 15, 2026, a run of 17 days, in the Central Plaza area of Hwangsan Park. Two reports about a city tour package gave an October 31 start; the opening announcement and the other coverage say October 30, which is what this guide uses.

Is the festival free?

No 2026 article checked states a fee. The provincial listing for the previous edition said free, and the park has no entry charge, so expect free entry but confirm with the city if it affects your plans.

What is actually on display?

The city reports about 53,000 chrysanthemum pieces grown by Yangsan's agricultural centre: roughly 300 bonsai works, 430 large multi-bloom and cascade formations, 1,500 large single-bloom works and about 51,000 small-flowered plants. Themed sculptures include four Yangsan tourism characters, the Sapnyangmun gate, and a blue dragon, a yellow dragon and a tower.

How late can I visit?

Reports say the festival grounds are open for viewing until 21:00, so evening visits are intended. The 2026 opening time was not confirmed in the coverage checked.

How do I get there from Seoul without a car?

Take a train to Mulgeum Station, which takes about 3 hours from Seoul Station on services via Gupo, then use the overpass from the station into Hwangsan Park. Intercity buses to Yangsan take about 4 hours 10 minutes from Dong Seoul but arrive at the terminal in Jungbu-dong rather than at Mulgeum.

Is there a shuttle bus or festival parking?

CNB News reports the city plans to expand parking near the venue and set up temporary shuttle routes for public-transport visitors. No lot locations, routes, start dates or operating hours were published in the coverage checked, so look for the city's traffic notice shortly before you go.
